If you’re anything like me, then no doubt most of the social media promotion you do is done through your computer. However, recent advancements in technology with handheld devices means that it is becoming easier to stay in touch with your social media networks than ever before.
The iPhone and iPod Touch are at the forefront of mobile connectivity and the iPad is readying its launch just around the corner which will no doubt mean that more people will be using these platforms in increasing numbers in the future for social media interaction. Combine this with other manufacturers following Apple’s lead, such as Nokia, Android and HTC, and the future of social media on the move is looking very bright.
There currently over 150,000 apps on the iTunes app store and below I’m going to have a look at some of the best social media apps currently available. These will all help you keep in touch with friends or promote your site at any time of day, anywhere in the world. Best of all they are 100% free too (some may be free or ‘lite’ versions of the full app). Simply do a search for any of these on iTunes or from your iPhone/iTouch and get social!

Twitteriffic!
Twitteriffic – Winner of the best social networking app from Apple themselves, this Twitter client will let you do whatever you want with regards to Twitter and it supports multiple accounts too. Easy to use and pleasing on the eye.
Digg – Better late than never! Launched on 24th March you can now discover news and jump into conversations on the latest stories from the Digg network.
Twitbird Pro – Another Twitter client and my personal preffered choice. Supports multiple accounts and does exactly what you need to keep on top of Twitter.
Facebook – Chat, check photo’s and status updates from your Facebook account on the move.
Tumblr – Post text, photos, audio, video and anything else your heart desires to your Tumblelog while out and about.
eBuddy – Chat to your AIM, Windows Live, Yahoo, Facebook, GTalk, MySpace, ICQ and other IM client friends all from one app!
LinkedIn – Connect your professional profile with over 60 million others worldwide, all while on the move.
Bebo – Browse through your Bebo lifestream to find out what your friends are up to on Facebook or Twitter and updat your status while on the move.
MySpace Mobile – Pretty self-explanatory. MySpace on your iPhone/iTouch.
Fring – Another IM client like eBuddy for AIM, Yahoo Talk, ICQ etc.
iReddit – The official Reddit app. Read, chat, check pics etc from the comfort of wherever you are!
There’s some pretty good free social apps right there, but really that little list is only the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. With YoutTube already being a default app on iPhone and many other companies and well known sites developing apps, the scope of what we can achieve while on the move will only broaden over time. Mobile devices are fast becoming much more capable and I’m sure the influx of social media networking sites are just in their infancy right now and there’s sure to be much bigger and better things to come in the not-too-distant-social-media-future.
Exciting times!

how about the new Who’s Free app? There is nothing like it, it simply shows me which of my friends are free and I can contact them (http://bit.ly/htLQDW) it’s quite useful when you’re at a big event like the super bowl!:)
